Building Blocks for Youthful Skin

Lavender essential oil is a natural way to care for your skin and avoid hidden chemicals found in many popular (and expensive) over the counter products.

This popular essential oil has specific anti-aging properties. It can be your ally in keeping the signs of aging at a distance.

When included in skincare products, lavender oil can stimulate collagen production. Collage is important for skin tone and contributes to a supple youthful-looking complexion. When you increase collagen production, it can help prevent sagging skin and those dreaded 'laugh lines' we all want to avoid (ugh!).

Lavender oil also has anti-inflammatory properties. They help retain the skin's  moisture which is important for a smooth and silky appearance. You'll also notice a difference in any rough patches on your skin. The lavender oil helps calm down and smoothe out those trouble spots that can be so aggravating.

Plus, this essential oil has anti-oxidant properties and can fight free radicals. These are chemicals the body produces as a result of chronic stress, inadequate sleep, or poor diet. They can wreak havoc on your skin and can significantly contribute to signs of premature aging.

Here's the bottom line ...

Lavender essential oil can enhance your daily beauty routine and take your self-care regimen to the next level.

You'll be amazed how much better you'll feel and how confident you'll act when you know your skin looks great. It's so much easier to tackle life when you feel good about yourself (and know you can conquer the world).

Natural Beauty Recipes with Lavender Essential Oil

To help you get started, here are three DIY skincare recipes that include lavender essential oil as one of the ingredients.

For the best results, use your gentle cleanser, toner, and moisturizer twice daily in the morning and in the evening.

Gentle Cleanser

Ingredients:
  • 1/4 cup liquid castile soap (I like Dr. Bronner's Baby Unscented)
  • 3/4 cup distilled water
  • 1 Tbsp fractionated coconut oil (You can also use jojoba oil)
  • 5-7 drops lavender essential oil

Instructions:

1. Mix ingredients together in a clean, glass foaming pump dispenser.

2. Wet face before applying.

3. Rinse well. Gently towel dry.

Toner

Ingredients:

Instructions:

1. In a glass spray bottle, combine the witch hazel, rose water, and, lavender essential oil, and vitamin E oil.

2. Gently shake the bottle and mix the ingredients together.

3.  Apply toner to your face after using your gentle cleanser.

Natural Moisturizer

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup aloe vera gel (do not use juice or aloe from a plant because the cream will not whip correctly.)
  • 2 Tbsp sweet almond oil
  • 2 Tbsp jojoba oil
  • 1/2 Tbsp beeswax
  • 10 drops lavender essential oil

Instructions:

1. In a double boiler gently heat the beeswax, almond oil, and jojoba oil. (You can also place the ingredients in a glass bowl and place over a pot of water.)

2. Melt all the ingredients together.

3. Cool to room temperature. (Avoid adding your oils and aloe vera while the mixture is still hot.)

4. Once cool add the lavender essential oil and aloe vera gel.

5. Blend together well. Add additional aloe vera if you prefer a thicker consistency.

6. Store in an airtight container.

7. Apply to skin after cleansing and applying toner.

Benefits of Using Natural Products

You may not be aware that over-the-counter (OTC) skincare products contain harmful chemicals.

The beauty products we use daily to maintain a youthful and smooth complexion may actually cause health problems. One of the many chemicals found in skincare brands on the market is parabens. These synthetic chemicals are used to control the growth of bacteria, fungi, and mold in order to extend the shelf-life of OTC skincare products.

You may see them listed on the label as:

  • methylparaben

  • propylparaben

  • butylparaben,

  • ethylparaben.

Although no conclusive and absolute evidence is available to prove these synthetic chemicals cause health problems, the FDA is concerned.

They are currently researching whether parabens are linked to cancer and other health problems.

The EWG is also concerned about parabens. Research has revealed their ability to disrupt normal hormone function and production.

According to the EWG website:

Scientists are concerned about the exposure to environmental estrogens and how they may contribute to the risk of cancer, particularly breast cancer in women. Propylparaben can alter the expression of genes, including those in breast cancer cells (Wróbel 2014), and accelerate the growth of breast cancer cells (Okubo 2001). A recent University of California-Berkeley study found that low doses of butylparaben, previously not considered harmful, worked in conjunction with other cell receptors to switch on cancer genes and increased the growth of breast cancer cells (Pan 2016).”

You can escape the risks of these synthetic chemicals when you make your own natural beauty products.

The diy skincare recipes I've suggested for a gentle cleanser, toner, and natural moisturizer include only natural ingredients and provide a safe and effective way to take care of your skin. Plus, these DIY products can help you stretch your monthly budget and save money in the long-run.
